Silversea Reveals Design Details of The Cormorant at 55 South

When we first explored the story behind Silversea’s first hotel, The Cormorant at 55 South, Conrad Combrink, senior vice president, expeditions, described a bold ambition: to make the journey to Antarctica as meaningful as the destination itself.

Now, the next chapter unfolds.

“We needed to create a hotel that would be completely different in design, in standards and experiences than what is available in the region,” Combrink says.

What will it feel like to stay in Puerto Williams — the southernmost city in the world — before and after your Antarctica Fly Cruise voyage? Silversea revealed the first design details of The Cormorant at 55 South’s interior spaces, and they offer a compelling glimpse into a stay shaped as much by place as by purpose.

One point Combrink emphasizes is that this property will not simply be an extension of a Silversea ship. And yet, there is a philosophical throughline. Like Silver OriginSilver Nova, and Silver Ray, the hotel embraces Silversea’s design ethos: a reverence for connection to the destination, light, and spatial generosity.

Expect soaring ceilings, expansive windows, and open, airy interiors that frame cinematic views of the Beagle Channel and the dramatic peaks of Patagonia. Here, the outdoors is not a backdrop — it is the centerpiece. The design dissolves boundaries between inside and out, immersing guests in the elemental beauty of the region even before they set foot on The Last Continent.

At its core, The Cormorant at 55 South is rooted deeply in place. The architecture and interiors draw upon local materials, such as woods from regional Andean forests. Its warmth and texture anchor the contemporary design in authenticity, creating spaces that feel both refined and intimately connected to the land.

That sense of regional immersion extends beyond aesthetics. Culinary programming will celebrate the flavors of southern Chile, while curated active experiences will invite guests to engage with Puerto Williams’ rugged terrain and rich cultural heritage. The intention is clear: this is not merely a pre- or post-cruise stopover, but an integral chapter in the Antarctic narrative.

When The Cormorant at 55 South opens to Antarctica Fly Cruise guests in 2026, travelers can expect more than a place to stay. They can expect a threshold — a thoughtfully designed transition between civilization and one of the most remote environments on Earth.

In Puerto Williams, the adventure will begin long before the ice comes into view.
